چکیده

The continuous passive motion (CPM) device we developed for the elbow joint implements pro-supination of the forearm naturally accompanying flexion and extension of the elbow joint. As the method of making the curative effect due to accompanying pro-supination clear, the range of motion (ROM) of the forearm skeleton are estimated by using of the prosupination model of the forearm skeleton. As the pro-supination model of the forearm skeleton, there are the models Fick and others and Kecskemethy and others proposed. But, hypothesis is set in regard to the link length of the model and the rotation axis of the forearm. So, in the case of pro-supination of the forearm, it is thought that mismatch happens between the forearm skeletal model and the forearm skeleton. In this paper, by analyzing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the forearm, we proposed the newer forearm skeletal model based on the biomechanics.

A new kinematic model of pro- and supination of the human forearm.

We introduce a new kinematic model describing the motion of the human forearm bones, ulna and radius, during forearm rotation. During this motion between the two forearm extrem-positions, referred to as supination (palm up) and pronation (palm down), effects occur, that cannot be explained by the the established kinematic model of R. Fick from 1904. Especially, the motion of the ulna is not pro...

Impedance Control of Two d.o.f CPM Device for Upper Limb Disorders

Continuous passive motion (CPM) is an orthopedic treatment or a physiotherapy and is tried to apply after surgery for the injured radial collateral ligament (RCL) in the elbow joint. After the surgery, the reaction force at hand of the patient increases due to an increase of the joint stiffness and may be excessively large. For this, it is effective to reduce the excessive reaction force by con...

Correlation between dorsovolar translation and rotation of the radius on the distal radioulnar joint during supination and pronation of forearm.

This study aimed to describe the patterns of movements about radius and ulna in individual degrees of forearm rotation. And, we also determined the effect of forearm rotation on translation and rotation of the radius with reference to the ulna, and to measure the relationship between forearm rotation, translation and rotation of the radius. Computed tomography of multiple, individual forearm po...

The comparison of density-elastic modulus equations for the distal ulna at multiple forearm positions: a finite element study.

The accuracy of an empirically derived density-modulus equation for bone depends upon the loading conditions and anatomic site of bone specimens used for experimentation. A recent study used FE modeling to compare the ability of three density-modulus relationships to predict strain during bending in neutral forearm rotation in the distal ulna; however, due to the inhomogeneous nature of these F...

Design and implementation of an instrumented ulnar head prosthesis to measure loads in vitro.

The development of a novel instrumented implant for ulnar head replacement is presented in this study. This implant was instrumented with strain gauges to quantify bending moments about the anatomic axes of the distal ulna, and subsequently the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) reaction force magnitude. The implant was surgically inserted in seven cadaveric upper extremities, which were subsequent...
